Families today are pulled in many directions. Time and money are at a premium, with an increasing number of families trying to do more with fewer resources. Kids have increasingly complex school and extracurricular schedules as well. YMCA family programs seek to strengthen family ties, instill core values and provide families with worry free, fun activities to do together. Offered in a nurturing and supportive environment, YMCA family programs help to provide a foundation of positive communication, teach positive parenting, mutual respect and create fond memories.
Adventure Guides: The YMCA Adventure Guides program is designed to assist the father and child on a journey of discovery. While activities with the whole family are important, we see tremendous value in supporting and strengthening the ability of a parent and his child to communicate at an early age in ways that are caring, trustworthy, honest, respectful, and responsible.
Community Open House: YMCA Community Open House is a fun-filled day of activities that mark the beginning of summer at the YMCA. All outdoor pools are open and we welcome members as well as their friends and family to enjoy a day of family swim at the YMCA.
Father of the Year: Louis Smart Dodd created Father’s Day in its present form at a meeting at the Spokane Washington YMCA in 1909. The YMCA and the Spokane Minister’s Alliance swiftly endorsed the idea and helped it spread, holding the first ever Father’s Day celebration on June 10, 1910. Each year, in celebration of Fathers Day, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas honors one Father from each branch with a “Father of the Year Awardâ€. Each honoree is recognized during a family celebration.
Healthy Kids Day: YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a free, fun-filled day of activities designed to promote healthy kids in spirit, mind and body. YMCA Healthy Kids Day community-based events celebrate making fitness fun, and introduce kids to an array of YMCA programs that teach healthy behaviors and healthy ways to play.
