DALLAS YMCA HOLDS 5th ANNUAL KEY LEADERS EVENT
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison Addresses Key Leader Attendees
Dallas, Texas (October 30, 2008) – The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas held its 5th Annual Key Leaders event today at the Belo Mansion. More than two hundred community and YMCA leaders from around the area were in attendance. The event was sponsored by Bank of America, Capital One Bank and Texas Instruments. Scott Moore, of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Chairman of the YMCA Board welcomed the group and served as the morning’s host. The event encouraged key area business leaders to become more involved in the community by highlighting the YMCA’s future strategies for building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
YMCA Building Strong Kids Capital Campaign Co-chair, Garrett Boone, and Chairman Emeritus of The Container Store updated the group on the $31 million campaign. To date, $26 million dollars has been raised. Co-Chairing the Campaign with Boone is Gail Madden, co-founder of the Community Connection. The funds raised through this capital campaign will allow the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas to build, expand and modernize new and existing facilities throughout North Texas.
Speaking about the campaign, Boone said, “As someone who grew up in the YMCA, I personally know the impact it has on our children and families. Our supporters realize this as well, as so many have shared their personal YMCA stories along with their financial resources.”
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison served as this morning’s Keynote speaker. Senator Hutchison and her family are members of the Park Cities YMCA participating in sports and the Adventure Guide Programs. The Senator spoke about the changes happening in Washington and about the recent Financial Bailout package. She also spoke about the legislation in process that will effect the education of our youth specifically in the areas of Math and Science, an area we continue to lag behind in as a nation.
