Healthy Kids Day

MAKE IT A PLAY DATE
April 27, 2013

As part of our commitment to addressing critical gaps in health and education, at Healthy Kids Day, the Y is kicking off efforts to encourage kids to stay physically and intellectually active over the summer.

Children gain weight two to three times faster during summer vacation than during the school year. Research shows that summer learning loss is more pronounced for students in low socio-economic environments. So much so that, by fifth grade, low-income kids are two to three school years behind middle-income kids. This is why we have to reach even more parents and kids this Healthy Kids Day and provide the motivation and education they need to get a jump on their summer and stay active head to toe.

To kick-start physical activity and learning throughout the summer –  the Y celebrates Healthy Kids Day® with a free community event on April 27, 2013, for kids and families.
