WHAT WE DO
The Y makes accessible the support and opportunities that empower people and communities. With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth & teen, improves the nation's health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

RUN IN STRIDE

STRIDE is a fun and exciting fitness and running program for boys in 3rd to 5th grade. The program encourages boys to exhibit excellence in character in all aspects of their lives, making healthy choices, and build confidence by leading them with a curriculum that incorporates discussion, team building activities, games and fun running workouts that build endurance so the boys can successfully complete a 5K at the end of the season.

The lessons cover topics such as Goal Setting, Competition, Teamwork, Being a Good Friend, Bullying, Healthy Eating, Conflict Resolution and Making a Difference.

It is a 6 week program and meets twice a week starting the week of October 27th.

The 5K run will be the Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.

Program fees: $30/participant (race fee included)

I was injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2006. In 2011 I moved my family to Dallas to be closer to medical services. We learned the Plano YMCA had many programs to support families like mine. With a scholarship funded by the Partners Annual Campaign, I used the Y to continue my rehab, and my son attends preschool. It's nice for him to have a place where he can learn and have fun while my wife and I go to physical therapy and doctors' appointments.
