Through service-learning and volunteering, youth take an active role in community building. As youth help create and maintain safe, clean, and program-rich communities, they become more connected to their neighbors as they get to know and help those in need; they take pride in their achievements as family and friends enjoy the community enhancements that they had a hand in building; and they begin to see themselves as an appreciated and integral member of a larger circle in society.
