Park Cities Y Announces Plan for Interim Space

PARK CITIES Y TO MOVE TO PRESTON CENTER

(DALLAS, TEXAS - MAY 7, 2014)

The YMCA is pleased to announce the location of the Park Cities YMCA interim facility. Today, we signed a lease to move into interim space in Preston Center during the construction phase of the Park Cities YMCA.

“We are very excited to have secured a temporary home for the Y right here in the Park Cities,” said John Palms, Park Cities YMCA Board Chair. “This is the next step of many, towards the new Y in the Park Cities.”

Formerly operating as a fitness center, the 15,000 square foot facility is located adjacent to Hop Doddy’s and across the street from Black Eye Pea.  The facility will have comparable health and wellness amenities to the existing YMCA which include a 3,500 sf fitness area, cycle and group exercise rooms, a child watch area, multi- purpose meeting space along with men and women’s shower and locker rooms.

Once the campaign reaches 80% of fundraising, the Y will move to the Preston Center location. The overall project of the Park Cities YMCA is $28 million.  Currently the fundraising efforts are just shy of the 50% mark with $13.5 million dollars.  The Volunteers are working hard in the community with not only key leaders but with all families to help to achieve this goal.  The sooner 80% of fundraising is met, the sooner the construction can begin on the new YMCA.  Anticipated construction for the new Y is 12-14 months and occupancy in the Preston Center space for the same amount of time.

“We have been so fortunate to have such generous donors such as the Moody Foundation and many other community members and families leading the way.  I am confident that we will continue to engage our community in our fundraising efforts and will hit the 80% mark in 2014” stated Palms.
