FRISCO FAMILY YMCA: MICHELLE TAYLOR'S Y STORY

FR

My first introduction to a YMCA was at the Town North YMCA (now Semones Family Y). I had signed my daughter up for swim lessons. Later I signed my son and daughter up for summer camp. At this time I was not working so I could raise my children. In the year 1988, I tried out the YMCAs fitness classes and I thought I might be able to help. I had been teaching several years at another center. The Y hired me in October 1988 as a group exercise instructor. I moved up to part time coordinator then full time fitness coordinator, Fitness Director, associate director at the Downtown Y, and ended up in Oklahoma City in 2000 as District Executive Director. I retired in OKC after 27 years of service and moved back to Frisco to be close to my grandkids.

The Y is my "Happy Place." It is a place open to everyone. The Y helps so many families, children, seniors, and adults within the community of Frisco. I love being a part of such an outstanding organization. Everyone is friendly, especially the staff. I enjoy working out there as well as serving on the board as chair.

The Y is different from other organizations because it strengthens the community and individuals through its mission. The Y listens to the community's needs and provides innovative programs.

It is important to support a cause driven organization like the Y. We promote volunteerism and board recruitment in our efforts to raise funds for our annual campaign. Funds are used to help those unable to pay for programs such as youth sports, childcare, Live Strong, membership, to name a few. The Y is a place where we all feel welcomed and needed.

The Y is helping shape our community by innovation and impact programming. We continue to listen to the people which help promote a community built around Spirit, Mind and Body for all!
