Meet the New Coppell Y Directors: Amber Tuter, Aquatics Director

Amber

Meet the Coppell Family YMCA’s new Aquatics Director, Amber Tuter. Joining the Y in early June, she can be found overseeing all aspects of the Y’s swim-related activities at both the Coppell and Cross Timbers (Flower Mound) branches. During the summer months she spends three days at the Coppell branch, which features a natatorium or indoor pool, and two days at Cross Timbers, which has an outdoor pool. During the school year, when the outdoor pool is closed, she spends her time at the Coppell branch.

Amber moved from the Houston area where she worked for three different YMCAs, most recently being employed at the Wendel D. Ley branch in the Deer Park area of Houston. She previously filled the Aquatics Director position at the Thelma Ley Anderson branch in Alvin, Texas, and before that worked at the Perry branch in League City, Texas. Her very first job was being a lifeguard at the YMCA near Klein High School, where she was a member of the swim team. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Sciences from American Public University.

As the Aquatics Director, Amber’s goal is to return the number of swim lessons to that of pre-COVID level. The Coppell Family Y boasted the largest number of swim lessons among the 16 YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas facilities. She also wants to increase the number of swimmers on the Coppell Cruisers swim team. Amber hopes to strengthen the relationships between the Y members and the staff.

When not at the Y, Amber spends time with her husband and 16-month-old son, Adrian, and hanging out with friends and family. Her two brothers live in North Texas. They all enjoy discovering new places, specifically ramen restaurants.
