VIRTUAL TURKEY TROT SUCCESS

Thanksgiving morning looked a little different this year, but we are grateful to have been able to celebrate the YMCA Dallas Turkey Trot this year virtually! This year, we had participants from all over the country participate in the Turkey Trot right in their own backyards! From enjoying the 8 Mile or 5K in the neighborhood to creating their very own “Turkey Trot” off of White Rock Lake, our community showed up with their love and support with this Thanksgiving tradition.

We had a total of 4,224 registered runners participating in our Virtual Turkey Trot. The Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is one of the largest multi-event races in the country with proceeds supporting the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas including the pandemic relief programs for children and families and the preschool program at Park South Family YMCA. We missed seeing everyone so much at Dallas City Hall Thanksgiving morning, but we are thankful for everyone’s support and kindness throughout the event. Our very own Board Chair, Jill Magnuson celebrated Thanksgiving morning with her family participating in the Turkey Trot,

“Despite missing the thrill of taking over downtown Dallas each Thanksgiving morning with thousands of fellow Trotters, I was grateful for the chance to participate with my family in the virtual Turkey Trot this COVID-stricken year.  For us, our neighborhood Trot had to happen on Thanksgiving morning as tradition.  Laced up and ready in our colorful Dallas skyline Trot T-Shirt, my daughter, Audrey, and I hit the streets and were thrilled to see so many Trotters running and walking in the neighborhood.  Because of COVID, my son was not able to come home from New York, but he also got to feel a little connected to home, as he ran the Trot along the shores of the Hudson River...and even earned his medal!”

For everyone who participated in the Turkey Trot this year, we cannot thank you enough for all your support. We hope to see everyone next year at City Hall!
