YMCA BRIGHTENED THE HOLIDAYS BY PROVIDING GIFTS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED

Family by angel tree

White Rock YMCA held its 7th annual Angel Tree distribution. The Y’s Angel Tree program provides new Christmas gifts for children and families in need with the support of donors. YMCA and community members “adopt” an Angel from the tree and purchase gifts for a specific child. All gift recipients are members of the White Rock YMCA and receive membership and program scholarships through the Y for All program.

For many families, it is hard to imagine waking up on Christmas morning without gifts under the tree and for many families in the East Dallas community, this is an unfortunate reality. This year, we served 152 angels and 52 families! Valerie King has a son and five foster children, and the Angel Tree program has been a blessing to them. “It feels good to be a recipient of the angel tree. I enjoy the Y more than just the angel tree, it has impacted my family, and it means a lot to us. The angel tree has made a difference because my children get more gifts, and it relieves stress during the holidays. It is nice when you get a gift but, it is a difference when you get a gift with love from the Y,” King said.
