DALLAS (November 17, 2020) – PepsiCo’s Food for Good program has provided more than 35,000 snacks, breakfasts, hot lunches and milk to the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to help feed children in need in YMCA programs including Emergency Child Care, preschool and afterschool programs. The donations, which started in March and have continued into the Fall, have allowed the Y to provide food at no cost to kids participating in these programs during the pandemic.

PepsiCo’s Food for Good Program has provided:

  • 15,900 snacks and milk to the Y’s Emergency Child Care program which provided childcare at no cost to essential and frontline workers from March-May
  • Breakfast, hot lunch and two drinks plus a snack each day Monday-Friday to the Park South YMCA’s pre-school and afterschool programs totaling 19,715 units of food so far, with additional deliveries happening daily

“There are so many needs in our community that have been magnified by COVID and one of those is food insecurity, especially in our most vulnerable populations,” said Curt Hazelbaker, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. “It has been such a blessing to be able to provide milk, snacks and food to children throughout this pandemic. PepsiCo’s Food for Good Program has allowed us to ease some of the burden families are facing right now and we can’t thank them enough for their generosity. Through this support, we are able to make a stronger community and help others during this crisis.”

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the YMCA has focused much of its efforts on meeting the needs of the community – whether that’s childcare, learning programs, or providing food and household essentials to those in need.

“The Park South YMCA has been able to provide essential services for families throughout the pandemic including childcare, pre-school and afterschool care as there are so many parents who must go to work in-person and need a safe place for their children,” said Rodrigua Ross, Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the Dallas YMCA. “Thanks to PepsiCo, we’ve been able to provide these children with healthy food every day during these difficult times.”

“PepsiCo’s Food for Good Program has been on the frontlines fighting childhood hunger for over 10 years, and we’re proud to continue our partnership with the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas,” said Doug Hargis, Senior Manager of Food for Good. “The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas has been a lifeline for the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, providing free child care services to frontline workers and partnering with us to ensure children receive the nutrition they need every day. It is PepsiCo’s privilege to continue our commitment to the YMCA and provide support for the Dallas community.”
