Youth Sports - FAQ

I registered my child, when will I know what team they're on and/or hear from the coach?
Our goal is to have rosters completed at our coaches meetings, which is 3 weeks before the start of the season. However, due to late registrations and making time for roster adjustments, we will have rosters finalized one week prior to the start of the season and before practices start. Coaches typically reach out to parents as soon as they receive their rosters. The main way coaches communicate is via email, so please make sure we have your correct contact information and check your junk mail for communications. However, if you have not heard from a coach 2 weeks prior to the start of the season, please contact us.
When and where are practices?
Practices start 1 week prior to the start of the season. Practices days, time and locations are determined by the coach. Practices are held at local schools, churches and parks.
How many games will my child play?
Typically, for our indoor sports, a season consists of 7 games and during the summer months, seasons may be shortened to 6 games. For our outdoor sports, 7 games are scheduled, however, the weather is a variable and 5 games will be considered a season if weather is a factor.
When does the season start?
Here are the annual youth sports start dates by season (Dates may be subject to change):
- Spring Sports: 1st weekend in March
- Summer Sports: 1st weekend in June
- Fall Sports: last weekend in Sept.
- Winter Sports: 1st weekend in December
Will my child need any specific equipment to play?
Depending on the sport there are certain equipment requirements to play, such as shin guards for soccer and knee pads for volleyball. For a complete list of required equipment for each sport, please go to the Be A Coach - Change Lives section of our website. Under the "coaches resources" section you will find the rules for each sport we offer. The specific equipment needs are found within those rules.
For all our recreational leagues, you are required to have an official Cross Timbers YMCA jersey to participate. Jerseys are an additional cost and can be purchased online through our local vendor. Jerseys can be used for multiple seasons for as long as they fit!
Can my child play with his friend(s) or a specific coach?
Yes! We do our best to make this happen. Although we cannot make guarantees, the earlier you register the better opportunity we have to make this happen for you. Please make sure you list requested friend(s) and/or coach when registering your child. Registering late makes this much more difficult and may not be possible, so please register early if this is something your interested in.
The best possible way to make sure this happens is to be a coach! Coaches can provide complete rosters and request specific players for their teams. Please see the Be A Coach - Change Lives section of our website to find out how to volunteer as a coach.
Do you provide discounts for siblings?
We do not offer discounts for siblings. We do offer scholarships for those who qualify. To determine if you qualify, please ask our front desk staff for a scholarship application. The application will provide details on what you need to complete and submit with the application to determine qualification.
