CAMPEONES UNIDOS

ABOUT CAMPEONES UNIDOS

Campeones Unidos (United Champions) is the Dallas YMCA’s Hispanic Latino Employee Resource Group. We are excited to work toward an organization and community in which the issues and inequities faced by Latinos/Hispanics are addressed, Latino/Hispanic accomplishments are celebrated, and the people we represent are not seen as visitors, but an integral fiber of the fabric that is America.  This is a space for Latinos, Hispanics, Allies, and YMCA staff as a whole. Join us as we celebrate our pride, passion, and culture.

CAMPEONES UNIDOS - KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in 2020, Campeones Unidos hosted our first ever KNOW YOUR RIGHTS Discussion Panel for YMCA staff and the community at large. Legal and law enforcement experts shared their experiences, expertise, and voices as related to immigration, visas, traffic stops, and detainment in an eye-opening virtual experience.

6 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT RACIAL EQUITY IN THE WORKPLACE

  1. Take Harvard’s Implicit Association Test to assess where you are at in your anti-racist journey.
  2. Read, Listen, and Learn. Read read a book, review an article or blog or listen to a podcast. Learn a new perspective that may be life altering in a positive way.
  3. Non-people of color to take a honest, heartfelt look at your staff and colleagues and start a conversation. It may be awkward, strange and uncomfortable, but that’s okay.
  4. People of color to start opening yourselves to others and sharing your stories in a respectful, mindful way so that others can not only understand but can empathize and learn what they may be able to do.
  5. Speak Up & Out about an injustice or uncomfortable situation as it happens everyday. Allies and advocates need to support others so they will know they are not alone.
  6. Join an ERG. We need our ERGs and all of our dimensions of diversity to shine now more than ever. ERGs are for learners, supporters, and allies. Visit www.ymcadallas.org/ERG to register.
