LAKEWEST FAMILY YMCA IS CHANGING TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY
The Lakewest Family YMCA has been part of the West Dallas community for 20 years and we remain committed to serving the families in this community.
The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas has been working closely with an independent, third-party group to examine the best way our YMCA facilities can be used to serve the community, including the Lakewest YMCA.
The study identified how this branch can impact the long-term needs of the surrounding area. Our clear strengths at the Lakewest Family YMCA are in the programs we offer for youth and teens - basketball, soccer, after school programs, swim lessons, teen programs and summer camp. The study also found that the fitness equipment at this location was largely not being utilized.
Beginning on April 13th, the Lakewest YMCA will transition to become a community program center that focuses on providing programs that match the needs of the families in this community. We will offer swim lessons, after school programs, summer camp, teen camp, sports, swim team and activities for seniors. We will also continue to remain open for the church that meets at Lakewest on Sunday’s. This change enables the Y to serve more youth in our community.
With this update, we will no longer offer wellness center equipment beginning on April 11th. Those with existing gym memberships can use any YMCA facility in the Dallas area including the T. Boone Pickens YMCA, Oak Cliff YMCA and the Moody Family YMCA which are all within 6 miles of the Lakewest YMCA. Because of this change, we’ll credit your account for two months free of membership (May and June of 2020). Additionally, members will be able to access 18 YMCAs throughout Dallas at the same current monthly rate through Dec 31, 2020.
If you are a Silver Sneakers member, or if your membership is paid for by another provider, Irving and Oak Cliff are the closest Ys for you to take advantage of this program.
Our updated hours beginning April 13th will be 3pm - 8pm for youth and teen programming, and as needed on Saturdays and summer months.
These updates let us reinvest in the specific needs of this community, allowing us to focus on the programs that have the biggest impact on the families here in West Dallas.
