ABOUT YMCA AFTERSCHOOL

The YMCA is the largest provider of childcare and school age programs in Texas, as well as the nation. When you become a part of the YMCA, you are joining a movement, not just a childcare program. That movement strives to impact our communities locally as a not for profit that can serve families from birth to adulthood and beyond. No other organization can claim to impact as many children and families as we do every day in our programs, camps and branches. Our history in North Texas spans 129 years of meeting the needs of our families and we are excited for the opportunity to meet your family in our Afterschool program.

YMCA Afterschool is a place where your child can learn while having fun with friends in a safe and nurturing environment. With values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility as our guide, we work with every child to help them realize their true potential.

Our school age programs are licensed by the Texas Department Family & Protective Services (TDFPS) and operate at a 1:15 staff to student ratio (well below the ratio of 1 to 26 required by the state of Texas).

Our program consists of three key components; Academic Support, Physical Fitness and Nutrition, and Special Interest Centers.

  • Academic Support includes homework time and hands on fun exploration of traditional subject matter.

  • Fun & Fitness focuses on increasing physical activity and spotlighting nutrition in our grub clubs.

  • Exploration Stations allow kids to explore and pursue their specific areas of interest through clubs, projects and special interest centers.

In some districts, we also collaborate with local schools to employ teachers and para-professionals to assist with homework time and clubs.
