The WHITE ROCK YMCA has been participating in the Make a Splash Outreach Swim Lesson program for five years now. We have grown from 1 site our first year to 23 sites this past summer!
Drowning is the second leading cause of death for children under the age of 14. We've targeted apartment complexes and community groups right here in East and Southeast Dallas. We were able to host lessons at the Pleasant Grove Pool for the children from the Salvation Army of Pleasant Grove Day Camp, the Interfaith Housing Coalition and the Nexus Recovery Center.
In all, our team taught 366 children to swim during the summer of 2015 at no cost to them!
Safety in and around water is an important issue for all of our children. At the Y, we believe that safe swimming saves lives and that all children should be equipped with the skills to help them safely enjoy the water. Our Make a Splash program is one of the many ways we help to make time in and around the water both fun and safe.
