WELCOMING WEEK

WELCOMING WEEK

We know communities are stronger and more cohesive when people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to get to know one another and work side-by-side to advance the common good. Created by YMCA of the USA's national partner, Welcoming America, Welcoming Week is a national celebration that brings together immigrants and U.S.-born residents at community-based events to promote cross-cultural understanding and raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone!

It’s here!  Friday September 10th – Saturday September 19th, the Dallas Y along with Y’s and other organizations around the country will be observing Welcoming Week!

Enjoy any of our YMCA locations, workout space, exercise classes, or indoor pools, all that the Y has to offer - no membership required! We are open to all during Welcoming Week.

WHAT IS WELCOMING WEEK?

Nationally, Welcoming Week is September 10-19, 2021. Celebrated each year in September, Welcoming Week elevates the growing movement of communities that fully embrace new Americans and their contributions to the social fabric of our country. It's a chance for neighbors—both immigrants and U.S.-born residents—to get to know one another and celebrate what unites us as a community. During Welcoming Week, local governments, businesses, non-profits, social services, agencies and community organizations host events to: Celebrate the diversity of our communities, Bring together newcomers and long-standing residents to build mutual understanding, Stand in solidarity with marginalized communities, and Help communities move beyond divisiveness and fragmentation.

Why is the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas celebrating Welcoming Week?

With 16 branches representing many different communities across the Dallas area, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is committed to recognizing and celebrating the incredible diversity of the people and communities we serve every day. By recognizing each of our countries of origin, cultures, and ethnicities, we invite our staff and communities to engage in meaningful fellowship and deeper connections with each other. We strengthen communities when we create spaces and opportunities to collaborate around our unique backgrounds, traditions, and cultures.

How is the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas celebrating Welcoming Week?

  • Welcoming Week shirts have been ordered our front desk staff members
  • Special group exercise classes are being offered at select branches.
  • Special events are being held at select branches to celebrate cultural holidays and impact underserved communities.
  • Social media accounts will highlight stories of YMCA members, volunteers, and staff that represent a spectrum of different cultures and countries of origin.
