My name is Rod Hicks, I'm a wellness coach and dance instructor at T. Boone YMCA. I've been a member since 1986, and started working here for the YMCA in 2007.

I've always had an interest in health and fitness, and have taught physical education for DISD; so wellness coaching has been a great fit for me. I'm a father of two, and grandfather of 3. My hobbies include tennis, baseball and singing the national anthem at the YMCA Turkey Trot!

About Me:  I started working part time for the YMCA while I was in college and eventually worked full time for over 17 years. During that time, I became inspired to get healthy and lost more than 130 pounds, began teaching aqua fitness then cycling and then became a personal trainer in 2018.  I believe that weight loss and fitness are HIGHLY individualized and very complex.  You must truly have the desire to get fit.  Nothing anyone says or does can motivate you, you have to want it for yourself.

Married and mother of two.  My interests are anything health and wellness related, singing and volunteering at my church, IBOC and with my sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Bio: I was a track & field athlete at University of Houston. I made Team USA U20 team and ran with some of the fastest athletes in the world, at the biggest platforms. Outside of my love for training people and myself; I love to go sightseeing. Some of my most influential mentors include Olympians Carl Lewis and Leroy Burrell; which is where I gained many insights on training others and progressing their fitness level. I love training and passing on the knowledge and experienced I've gained.

Bio: Health and wellness have always been my passion and I've always been active. I've found fulfillment in helping others feel better about themselves physically, physiologically and psychologically. 

With my degree in Kinesiology, and over 7 years of experience in physical and occupational therapy roles, I am capable and confident working with all types of people, especially complex physical limitations from injuries or illnesses.

Bio: I am a recent graduate with a Master’s in Dietetics with dietetic internship experience in a hospital setting as well as eating disorder recovery programs.  I look forward to using my education in a way to provide education, affordability, and accessible nutritional support, prior to hospitalization or advanced progression of nutritional diseases. 

I emphasize the importance of personal responsibility, goal-setting, and intentionality when coaching someone to make behavior changes with their nutrition.
