Impact Story: Kennedy Ford

Kennedy Ford - Frisco YMCa

Members of our community are the ones that encourage and inspire us to continue strengthening our spirit, mind, and body! The Frisco Family YMCA staff finds inspiration in Kennedy Ford, a brilliant 5th grader diagnosed with Autism. While her primary support system consists of her mother and father, Kieshawn and Marquis Ford, as well as her younger sister Karsyn, the Frisco Y staff has extended this level of support through our fitness program.

"Developing life skills is very difficult for some children on the spectrum," Kieshawn said. "I'm so happy to say that by adding a regular workout routine, it has helped [Kennedy] generalize [her] skills, become more independent, and take control of her health."

Kennedy moved from Georgia at the age of 5 to Texas for better Autism benefits, resources, and support for a higher age range. Through the gracious support from our donors during our Annual Campaign, the Frisco Y is able to continue to provide programs and scholarships to children like Kennedy.

"This staff is so wonderful that, if they hear her voice... they run out to say hello," Kieshawn said. "It makes me feel so wonderful, and it lets her know that she is special and that they're happy that she's there."

When she's not working out at the Y, Kennedy's diagnosis has not stopped her from learning and achieving her goals. She's a music lover, who has perfect pitch and plays Beethoven or Bach every 6 months. To see her workout routine in action, check out Kennedy's story below!
