Impact Story: The Rush Family

Rush Family

Our families are the backbone of all that we do at the Frisco Y, and Latrenda Rush's family is no different. Latrenda's family have been members of the YMCA for around 10 years, with her and her husband wanting to be role models to their children to see the importance of staying active and moving their bodies. With 4 children ranging now from the ages of 14 - 21 years old, it was important for them to not only stay healthy but also connect and bond as a family.

When Latrenda's husband passed away from Sickle Cell in 2021, it was essential to keep being active. "I have a ton of pictures of him and I working out," Latrenda said. "This year is different, joining the Y." Back then, the Rush family turned to the Y for enrichment; now, her family looks to the Y to continue to build their confidence.

No matter what status or situation anyone is in, the Y makes it a priority to be a pillar in our communities where we're needed. "What gravitated me to the Y was the diversity there. The Y has taken the time to provide tons of services," Latrenda said. "They don't just cater to the elite. [The Y] provides avenues for those who may not be in the season to completely pay for those things, and bring hope to those who used to be able to."

Whether through our Financial Aid support program, scholarshiping memberships, or just by being a safe facility for families to stay active, the Y is here for you. We want to thank Latrenda for sharing her story with us and continuing her membership for her and her family with us!
