DALLAS, TEXAS (October 26, 2023) – The Lake Highlands Family YMCA has officially completed Phases I and II as part of the branch’s 15,000-square-foot expansion project. This comes after the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas’ Board of Directors approved a strategic plan in early 2020 to renovate existing locations to help better serve North Texans and create a more equitable experience for all. Lake Highlands is the first YMCA branch to undergo massive reconstruction.

New amenities include:

  • More parking availability with 205 spaces, a 68% increase from the previous lot
  • Updated landscaping around the facility and parking lot
  • A larger and more modern entry, lobby, and fitness center
  • A multipurpose room for events and community gatherings
  • Updates to locker rooms and 14 bathrooms with 10 serving as changing rooms complete with showers and vanities.

“This is our 23rd year serving the community of Lake Highlands,” said Brian Haines, Vice President of Operations of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. “Just like our members, our neighborhood has grown and changed, so it was important for us to provide a space that fits their needs today. We’re thrilled to be near the end of the remodel and look forward to the new opportunities our members will gain.”

The last phase of construction has begun and will include a new Childwatch room, a dedicated cycle studio, an updated gym, and a new office suite.

“This year has been one of the most exciting times to be at the YMCA. Our commitment to improving the lives of our members and community can be seen through our various construction projects taking place across North Texas, and our vision for Lake Highlands started it all,” said Curt Hazelbaker, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. “With the branch nearly complete, we will soon begin the Park South Family YMCA rebuild. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from our members and staff and can’t wait to see the finished look.”

The Lake Highlands Family YMCA branch will remain open throughout the final phase of construction which is expected to be completed in early 2024. Learn more about this project: www.ymcadallas.org/LakeHighlandsRenovation
