YMCA DALLAS to REOPEN 6 ADDITIONAL BRANCHES june 15th

DALLAS – June 8, 2020 — The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas announced today it will reopen six additional facilities on Monday, June 15 during Phase II of its reopening plan including:

  • Coppell Family YMCA
  • Lake Highlands Family YMCA
  • Oak Cliff Family YMCA
  • Richardson Family YMCA
  • T. Boone Pickens YMCA
  • Waxahachie Family YMCA

After closing its facilities in March due to COVID-19, a phased re-opening of local Dallas area Ys began on June 1 and will continue in the coming weeks. The Dallas Y will keep reopening branches in phases in order to protect YMCA staff and members. This approach allows the Y to prepare its facilities and train staff on new safety protocols while helping members get comfortable with new routines.

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our community – especially our most vulnerable neighbors – is our top priority. We’ve been carefully planning how to reopen our facilities and restart programs in the safest way possible to welcome our members back,” said Curt Hazelbaker, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.

We’re doing everything possible to ensure our facilities meet the highest standards for hygiene and safety. We have modified our policies and practices to promote safe social distancing. The way we’ll interact with each other will be different, but at the Y, members will always be able to connect with people, improve health and wellness, nurture their children’s potential and help strengthen the community,” continued Hazelbaker.

Crystal Chavarie, VP of Risk Management for the Dallas YMCA added, “As members begin to come back to the Y, we encourage them to visit www.ymcadallas.org/reopening in advance to be familiar with our enhanced safety protocols and procedures. Reservations must be made in advance for spots in group exercise classes, ChildWatch or lap swim. Locker rooms will remain closed and members can expect cardio equipment to be spaced six feet apart. We’ll continue to have staff sanitizing regularly throughout the day and ask members to wipe down equipment before and after use.”

Following the updated orders from the Governor issued on June 3, the Y facilities reopening in Phase II and that opened in Phase I will now operate at 50% capacity. The seven branches that opened in Phase I include the Frisco Family YMCA, J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall, Moody Family YMCA, Park South Family YMCA, Plano Family YMCA, Semones Family YMCA and White Rock YMCA.

In addition to physical locations reopening, day camp, summer camp and youth sports have also started in phased approaches. For more information, visit www.ymcadallas.org/summer.
