The question of why I support the White Rock YMCA Annual Campaign can be answered quite simply. It’s all about being made aware of what the Campaign supports. I joined the Downtown Dallas YMCA (now the T. Boone Pickens YMCA) back in 1983. Since I worked downtown, I joined the Y to have a place to exercise and enjoy a sauna and whirlpool afterward. I had no idea of the service mission of the YMCA. That began to change when I joined the staff of White Rock in 2017. Each year I would learn more about the Campaign’s good works: subsidizing memberships through scholarships, safety around water, childcare support, and mental wellness, among others. As these activities are supported solely by the Campaign, member dues are reserved for operations, making the Campaign truly a community effort.
