Active Older Adults, SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit are the YMCA's programs for today's active adults 55 and older.
Some branches offer group classes like Low-impact Aerobics, Yoga , Senior Power Hour, Basic Cardio, and Senior Pilates. Others offer joint conditioning and “Sit and Be Fit” classes, and some also offer special swim classes that are easy on the joints and muscles.
Several Dallas YMCA branches provide opportunities for seniors to socialize as well. Monthly pot luck luncheons may include dominos, cards, or bingo. Other branches host day trips, line dancing evenings and craft classes.

SilverSneakers is an innovative exercise program specifically designed for Medicare beneficiaries' unique health and physical needs. Eligible members receive a free membership at the YMCA where they can enjoy specialized SilverSneakers classes focusing on improving strength, flexibility, balance and coordination.
Certified SilverSneakers fitness instructors teach the classes and in addition to the classes, you have access to the entire facility.

SilverSneakers Classic (MSROM):
Designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion and activity for daily living skills for our older adult members. Hand-held weights,elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
SilverSneakers Classic I:
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living with other active older adults. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
SilverSneakers Classic II:
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living with other active older adult members. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. This is more intense then Silver Sneakers I with no chair support.
This class is an effective way for older adults to build strength, stamina and flexibility while helping us bring harmony to the body, mind and spirit.

Our Silver&Fit Signature Series offers 3 different, progressive levels of group fitness programming designed to meet the needs of the wide variety of older adult fitness levels and abilities-from the de-conditioned or new exerciser who requires in chair programming to the athletic, fitter older adult who has continued to stay active.
Explore, Experience and Excel will provide your students with fun, time-efficient, circuit-based workouts that encompass a well-rounded approach to fitness so they can maintain an independent lifestyle, continue to participate in activities they love, and be empowered to live healthier, happier lives.
Silver&Fit Explore is designed for older adults who are just getting started or are returning to an exercise routine. Participating in this class will help increase your fitness, you may also find you have more energy to take on your daily tasks and may even sleep better at night. If you are looking for a gentle workout with seated exercise options, this is the class for you!
Silver&Fit Experience is designed for older adults looking for a moderate-level, well-balanced exercise routine. Participating in this class will help increase your heart health, muscular endurance and strength, flexibility and balance. All exercises are performed in a standing position with the option of using a chair for light support. This class will help you take on daily tasks with more ease and keep up with your grandkids!
Silver&Fit Excel is designed to the active, athletic older adult who is looking for a challenging workout. Participating in this class will help you increase your heart health, muscular endurance and strength, flexibility, and balance. The exercises are freestanding and involve more complex movements for advanced fitness levels. This class will help you to continue all of the activities you love to do, like playing sports or trying out a new dance routine!
