IMAGINE SCIENCE DALLAS
INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF YOUNG PROBLEM SOLVERS
By 2022 the U.S. will be short 1 million needed STEM professionals. Too few young people are pursuing STEM careers.
Imagine Science is an unprecedented partnership between four leading national youth organizations to bridge the STEM gap by igniting the imaginations of under-represented youth. Prolonged, informal exposure to STEM increases children’s interest and builds a foundation for proficiency through high school and beyond.
Locally launched in 2015, Imagine Science Dallas was one of three national pilots. Today there are 11 communities across the country. In Dallas, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension 4-H and YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas partnered to engage youth in STEM and STEM careers. Initially a summer program in two Pleasant Grove middle schools, Imagine Science expanded to year-round programming, serving over 1,500 4th - 8th grade students. Youth participate in themed activities from Entomology to Engineering with each session bringing a new adventure.
Led by a Program Manager, all four partners invest equally in the work of Imagine Science, creating curriculum, managing data, hosting program locations and assessing success. The YMCA acts as the fiscal agent for the cohort, as funds are raised across the community from individuals, businesses and foundations.
