We support the YMCA because we’ve seen the impact the organization has on our lives for decades. As a little girl, I learned how to swim & play basketball at the YMCA in Edmond, Oklahoma. As an adult, my husband and I became members at the White Rock YMCA around 2012 as a place to find a healthy community & gym for me and our first daughter. When Maison started his own company around 2018, we realized we needed to focus our finances on building a business and we needed to cancel our YMCA membership to release some finances. I was heartbroken knowing I wouldn’t get to see the women in my fitness classes or the child watch caregivers. When I called to cancel our membership, I started crying on the phone. The woman at the Y recognized I was upset about ending our membership and asked how she could help. She didn’t know me from Adam but offered to give us a scholarship until my Maison's business took off. Because of the Y’s support for our family, we support it back. My daughters and husband attend as many Adventure Guides events as possible. The campouts and daddy/daughter dances formed friendships between Maison & other dads in our community. Both our daughters took dance at the Y as toddlers. I’ve been an instructor at the White Rock & Lake Highlands locations which has allowed me to meet and support our community; especially new tired Moms & those new to the Dallas area from other countries. We see how our money goes back into the community by providing membership/sports/you-name-it scholarships, life-saving swim lessons, and a safe and loving place for anyone from anywhere with any circumstances to land. We are very grateful for our Y and all the opportunities it has to offer. - Ashley Vasek
